Weather Headlines

Mild or Cold? No-one knows?

I'm sure by now many of you have heard about the possibility of a change to much colder conditions as we enter the next week and move in February but the question on everyone's lip's, is it going to happen or not?

The simple answer at this stage is that we simply do not know! The GFS model, the main forecasting computer model used by Metlink Forecast is still very shaky with it's forecast, one minute it's showing a very cold spell of weather affecting the UK and the next we are back to mild, keep an eye on Metlink over the coming days as things should begin to become alot clearer.

A cold period oncoming?

Winter so far has been dominated by a mild and wet theme, a large constrast to the previous two winters which have seen some of the coldest conditions the UK has ever experienced right from the word go, but there are signs that this trend may be about to buckle from our latest long range forecast update.

Early signals are showing the February and March look to be colder than average, particulary in February where there is potential of a very cold spell of weather to develop. More info HERE

What's the weather in....?

Every year we get tonnes of emails asking if we know what the weather is going to do months ahead and unfortunately, at the moment in time the answer is generally no. Long range forecasts are still considered experimental and we still can't produce reliable forecasts based on them.

However what we can do is highlight what weather conditions are usually associated with the time of the year and that's exactly what we've done with our Year Ahead Outlook, you can see what the weather is usually like, right through the year. View the outlook HERE
